Kodak CEO says firm poised to succeed after emergence from Chapter 11 [Floor]

Perez's surroundings serve as a constant reminder of Kodak's hallowed history in the print and movie film industries – and of the pressure he is under to revive the ailing company.Kodak emerged from bankruptcy protection Tuesday vastly different from the company of old. Gone are the cameras and film that made it famous. The company hopes to replace them with new technologies such as touch screens for smartphones and smart packaging embedded with sensors. Over Mr. Perez's desk hang pictures depicting Kodak's future – including one of the company's ultra-fast commercial inkjet printer, the Prosper Press.

"Look for a case of a company that had to go through this kind of excruciating restructuring and kept innovating," Mr. Perez said. "It just doesn't happen, but we've done it."Kodak said its old stock is cancelled as of Tuesday. Creditors are getting stock in the restructured company. The week before Kodak exited Chapter 11 protection, Mr. Perez sat down with The Associated Press for a rare 90-minute interview. He spoke candidly about Kodak's restructuring and laid out his vision for what lies ahead.Eastman Kodak Co., credited with popularizing photography at the start of the 20th century, started to struggle toward the end of the century, first with Japanese competition and later when it failed to react quickly enough to the shift from film to digital photography.

Mr. Perez was appointed CEO in 2005. Under his leadership, the Rochester, N.Y.-based company had restructured its money-losing film business by 2007. The company closed 13 factories, shuttered 130 film-processing labs and eliminated 50,000 workers around the world at a cost of about $3.4-billion (U.S.).Kodak expected demand for film to decline, but gradually. The company anticipated that new demand from emerging markets such as China would offset some of the decline in the United States. But Mr. Perez said Chinese consumers opted for smartphones instead of cameras, and demand for film plummeted.

Korea deploys sea-based radars to better guard northern border [dress]

Ida Finley, Luminant said, owned only the house, its porch now hanging forlornly near overgrown weeds, the steps broken and rotting. The quaint siding is broken and cracked. Looters scattered pictures, stuffed animals, Christmas ornaments, letters, shoes and clothing across the dusty floor, making off with more valuable items, like a refrigerator. Luminant says it offered Ida money for the home, but she declined.

Jacquelin Finley owns only the trailer she lives in, Luminant says, and the company offered her a new trailer and nearly an acre elsewhere. Jacquelin said Sunday that the offer was made only in the past few days, after The Associated Press began asking questions. Either way, she has declined to accept it, and doesn't want to move. And for now Luminant can't force her.Looking recently at the dirt patch and pile of rubble that remains of the Methodist church she attended as a child, Jacquelin said Luminant would have to give her at least $1 million to leave — enough, she estimates, to fix her grandmother's house and care for her there.

South Korea has deployed advanced sea-based radars on its naval vessels operating near the western maritime border to better monitor North Korean activities, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said Monday.Engine has developed the sea-based radar platform for 5.1 billion won to replace older systems after the North shelled Yeonpyeong Island near the tensely guarded border in November 2010, killing four South Koreans, the DAPA said. The region also saw the sinking of a South Korean warship eight months earlier that resulted in the death of 46 sailors. Seoul accused the North of torpedoing the ship, while the North has denied involvement.

Biggest U.S. rocket blasts off with spy satellite [dress]

But many investors are now staring at losses as the rupee's plunge since May has wiped out gains they made on investments in private equity funds and mutual funds in the last few years."For people who are dollar-invested, that's a large hit," said Ajay Kaisth, principal of New Jersey-based Kai Advisors, which has $30 million under management, of which more than 60 percent is from Indian clients. After trading broadly around 45 per dollar in 2010 and 2011, the rupee has dropped more than 30 percent. The economy is likely to grow even more slowly in fiscal 2013/14 than the decade-low of 5 percent struck the previous year, as investment will stay weak due to a dearth of reforms and uncertainty ahead of the election, a Reuters poll showed.

The rupee has become the worst performer by far among Asian emerging-market currencies tracked by Reuters, despite frantic attempts by the government and central bank to support it.Lalit Kumar Jain, chairman of CREDAI said property purchases by Indian expatriates were now needs-based rather than speculative, reducing what has been in the past a key type of demand. As a portfolio investment destination, India also faces daunting competition as developed markets, including the United States, show signs of finally emerging from the global financial crisis, said Bundeep Singh Rangar, who advises individuals as well as companies on India investments as chairman of London-based IndusView Advisors.

The 23-story-tall rocket lifted off at 11:03 a.m. local time/1803 GMT from a launch pad originally built for, but never used by, NASA's now-retired space shuttles. No details about the rocket's spy-satellite payload were released. With three main booster-rocket cores, the Delta 4-Heavy is capable of putting a satellite the size of school bus into an orbit around Earth's poles.Wednesday's launch was the second Delta 4-Heavy to fly from California. The rocket, built by United Launch Alliance, a partnership of Boeing Co. and Lockheed Martin Corp., also has flown five times from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

Chevy back in the game for Super Bowl adfest [Watch]

Chevrolet will be back in the lineup when the teams take to the field in Super Bowl XLVIII, reversing a controversial 2012 decision to pull out of what is television's most watched annual event—and a program that millions of Americans watch as much for the commercials as for the football. The decision is the latest reversal of a series of widely debated decisions made by General Motors' former global marketing director, Joel Ewanick, before his departure in July 2012. GM has also decided to test out new opportunities on Facebook, another marketing outlet that Ewanick rejected before he was himself ousted because of a controversy involving costly marketing ties to European soccer.

"The timing of Super Bowl XLVIII lines up perfectly with our aggressive car and truck launch plans," said Tim Mahoney, who joined Chevrolet as its global chief marketing officer last February. "The Super Bowl is a great stage for showcasing the Chevrolet brand and our newest cars and trucks."According to Nielsen, February's broadcast of the championship game between the Baltimore Ravens and San Franicsco 49ers drew 108.7 million viewers—with over 1 billion estimated to have watched worldwide. But that's only one of the reasons why advertisers have traditionally raced to nab every open second of time during the broadcast.

According to SocialGuide's 2013 Super Bowl Advertising Report, an estimated 5.3 million people sent out 26.1 million tweets during the game. And millions more subsequently watched Super Bowl ads on YouTube and other outlets. The downside is cost. While prices vary depending on the deal an advertiser cuts, placing a 30-second spot on the 2012 Super Bowl broadcast, the last GM participated in, ran between $3.0 million and $3.5 million. And the figure jumped as high as a reported $4 million for the 2013 game.GM initially had nothing but good things to say about its 2012 ad presence, going so far as to claim its spot for the then-new Cadillac ATS was the "most-watched" commercial ever. But in May, Ewanick unexpectedly announced GM was breaking long-running ties to the NFL and abandoning the Super Bowl.

Kodak filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2012 [clothing]

In a prepared statement, Kodak CEO Antonio M. Perez called the decision a critically important step in the bankruptcy process. "Next, we move on to emergence as a technology leader serving large and growing'mercial imaging markets — such as'mercial printing, packaging, functional printing and professional services — with a leaner structure and a stronger balance sheet."There are additional transactional steps ahead as we'plete our Chapter 11 restructuring," Perez said in the statement, "but with the court's decision today, our emergence is now imminent."But for many of the people who became collateral damage in the bankruptcy, such as Kodak creditors, retirees and shareholders, Tuesday was undoubtedly not a day of celebration.

"Many are losing their retirement benefits," U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Allan Gropper said as he approved Kodak's turnaround plan. "Many are finding their recovery as a creditor is just a minute fraction of what their debt is from Kodak. Kodak's decline and bankruptcy is a tragedy of American economic life."Kodak tentatively hopes to exit bankruptcy Sept. 3. "Closing is'plicated, but we're cautiously optimistic," said Andrew Dietderich, an attorney with Kodak's legal counsel, Sullivan & Cromwell.Kodak filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January 2012 with the goals of shoring up its sagging finances, selling off non-strategic intellectual property, wrapping up legacy expenses such as its British pension fund shortfall and refocusing the'pany on only the most valuable of its lines of business, Dietderich said.

Tuesday, he told the court, "Kodak is a different'pany than the one in popular imagination and a very different one than the one that filed for bankruptcy."Kodak came into Tuesday's U.S. Bankruptcy Court hearing with sizable momentum. Last week, the'pany announced that a majority of its various creditors had signed off on the'pany's turnaround plan. The official'mittee representing unsecured creditors also is backing the plan.

Cut in US corn yield by the USDA 'surprised the markets' [dress]

The cut in the US corn yield by the USDA certainly surprised the markets, as an increase in both yield and stocks were expected. However, 'scepticism' on the methodology used to produce the projection plus continued favourable weather forecasts took US corn level back to new lows, erasing the gains after the initial release of the report.EU markets are unchanged over the past week, although current contract lows have been re-tested. Reports of better quality as the French harvest progresses north encouraged optimism that exporters will be able to achieve export spec. Harvest estimates are also increasing, with output now forecast over 36mln t in France and some projections close to 38 mln t. French wheat export levels are now cheaper than Russian, although this is more due to the fact that Russian prices have not fallen in line with other origins as concern rise over production and quality.

In the UK the early signs of the 2013 wheat harvest remain positive, with good yields and quality reported. DEFRA released its June survey yesterday, placing the wheat area in England for the current harvest at 1.512mln hectares. Although well down on last season's 1.856mln ha, it is slightly higher than the HGCA's planting estimate of 1.505mln hectares. Based on current yield projections, this increase equates to just over 50,000t and now places the UK 2013 wheat estimate just below 12.5mln t,'pared with 13.3mln t in 2012.In summary, the USDA, which was expected to answer a few questions, raised a few more instead!

Lower US corn production gave limited support as global stocks remained more than adequate due to production increases elsewhere in the world. Wheat, without support from corn, remains vulnerable price-wise and is pressured by the pure volume of corn supplies. The Russian wheat supply/demand needs to be addressed especially with the recent production downgrade, which, if it really now is sub 50mln mt, would reduce that country's export surplus to 10-12mln t. With around 7.5mln t due to be shipped by the end of September and the government already'mitted to rebuild inventories, Russia may soon disappear from the export market.

Brewer airport greeting 'cordial' this time [Floor]

The last meeting between Obama and the Brewer, on a Mesa airport tarmac in 2012, was immortalized in a photograph showing Brewer shaking her finger at the president, drawing applause from conservative circles and jeers from others who called it disrespectful. On Tuesday, Brewer asked Obama about her request that the Yarnell Hill Fire be declared a federal disaster, which would bring funding to help repair or replace the more than 120 structures lost or damaged in the blaze."She reminded him that it's been nearly a month," Wilder said. "He assured her that he would look into it."

Over the past 10 years, Arizona has received about $57.5 million in federal disaster aid, mainly to repair roads, bridges and other infrastructure damaged by storms and flooding, according to the Arizona Division of Emergency Management. The disaster declarations have'e anywhere from 17 days to seven weeks after the state's requests. In announcing the deal on Monday, the 49-year-old multibillionaire founder and chief executive of Seattle-based Amazon' Inc told Post staff in an open letter: "I won't be leading The Washington Post day-to-day."Bezos will stay in Seattle where he will focus on his day job as head of the world's largest online retailer. He promised to preserve the paper's journalistic tradition, while driving innovation in a business facing unprecedented challenges as advertising revenue and readership decline.

But tax experts said on Tuesday that playing a limited role at the Post could prevent Bezos from realizing individual i'e tax benefits that he might be able to claim as a result of owning The Post. For the first six months of the year through June, the Post's newspaper division reported an operating loss of $49.3 million,'pared with a loss of $33.2 million during the same period last year.Such losses could relieve Bezos of some tax burdens. For tax purposes, a business owner or partner can deduct from i'e any losses from operating that business. By reducing taxable i'e, losses can reduce a business owner's overall tax bill.

House prices meanwhile posted their biggest rise [juicycouturewatches]

House prices meanwhile posted their biggest rise in three years, while a leading forecaster said the UK recovery had picked up more pace since the growth rate doubled to 0.6pc in the second quarter. The pound reached a one-week high against the dollar on the back of more positive economic signals, before later dropping back as traders waited for the Bank update. All 13 of the UK's various manufacturing sub-sectors were in growth mode in June, the Office for National Statistics reported, for the first time since June 1992. The headline 1.9pc increase in manufacturing output overall drove the wider index of production for June, which also includes quarrying, mining, electricity and water supply, up to a 1.1pc increase on the previous month.

House prices meanwhile rose again in July, with a 0.9pc climb on the previous month, according to the leading index from Halifax. The sixth consecutive monthly rise meant that prices in the three months to July were 4.6pc higher'pared to the same period a year earlier, marking the fastest increase since August 2010.Martin Ellis, the lender's housing economist, said signs that the economy is improving appeared to be boosting consumer confidence, which he saw as underpinning the rise in housing demand.Meanwhile, supply remains low, with the stock of unsold properties below the level seen a year ago. "Official schemes, such as the Funding for Lending Scheme and the Help to Buy equity loan scheme, may also be raising demand," he said.

However, there were warnings from some quarters that these Government interventions in the housing market risk a housing bubble. Howard Archer, chief UK economist at IHS Global Insight, suggested that the next leg of the flagship Help to Buy scheme, the mortgage guarantee element, could have to be dropped."Should the housing market gain substantial momentum over the'ing months, the case for dropping the ... mortgage guarantee scheme that is due to start in 2014 will strengthen, even if the government may find this politically difficult to do," he said.Elsewhere, the picture of a wider economic recovery was confirmed by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, as it judged that overall growth picked up to 0.7pc in the last three months to the end of the July.

Yes, you will be eligible for a policy on the exchange and you will not have to wait until your COBRA coverage expires. You will have the ability to'pare your COBRA coverage to an exchange policy once the exchange opens. You will also be eligible for the premium tax credit if you qualify. The good news – all policies will be required to provide maternity coverage. The ACA finally makes getting pregnant on par with the rest of our medical needs and spreads the cost to the entire insured population. The bad news – all policies will be required to provide maternity coverage. This coverage cannot be turned down even if you have no chance of getting pregnant, so you can no longer purchase "bare bones" policies to decrease premium costs.

If you do not have coverage, you are only allowed to buy insurance during the open enrollment period, which starts this year on October 1 and goes through March 31, 2014. In subsequent years, open enrollment will only be from October 1 through December 7 of each year. If you do not buy insurance during open enrollment, you will not be allowed to purchase it if you suddenly b'e ill.I will share a true short story of why you should buy health insurance as soon as it is available. Mark is a healthy 63 year-old guy – normal weight, runs regularly, eats a healthy diet, and the world has always gone his way. Over a short period of time, he would get "worn out" doing his usual run. His stomach was also getting upset.

It seemed to be worse after a run, and his wife finally talked him into going to the doctor. The very astute doctor thought beyond the stomach and performed an EKG which revealed a heart abnormality. Mark underwent a cardiac catheterization, which revealed a "Widow Maker" blockage of his major heart artery. Widow Maker's get their name for a reason – people usually die quickly from such a large and strategically placed blockage. Mark had the blockage cleared and felt great and will hopefully live a long life. Fortunately for Mark, his health insurance paid most of the $20,000 bill for the entire ordeal.

Man rescued after getting stuck in ventilation duct [Electronic]

"Contact cleaning with a power vacuum and a flexible rotating power brush is one of the most effective methods to clean the interior of all ducts without the risk of damage,Mittee member, said they did not know if there were letters missing as one would not know if someone had corresponded with them button bits." said Wayne Tracy, Field Operations Manager. "The vacuum hose collects the dust just inches from the brush," he added.Air-Care has received feedback from carpet cleaning.panies regarding their entry into the duct cleaning service business. The.pany owners realized the advantage in adding the service but wanted to clean HVAC systems utilizing the equipment they already owned.

Field Technician, Randy Crutchfield said, "We planned to purchase the Air-Care DuctMaster machine that.bines 4 electric vacuum motors in a large cabinet with the Power Brush, but in their training class, we learned that we could use our more powerful truck vacuum with the TruckMaster and save money. Now we offer 2 services with the same vehicle," he continued. We hope Pos Malaysia will be able deliver the all in one touch pos terminal quickly.Another resident, Christian Hillier, who is an SPCA."Air-Care's TruckMaster is housed in a small, 5 lb, waterproof case with a wireless remote for run, forward and reverse and includes either a 1.5" or a 2" x 35 foot vacuum hose with motorized flexible brushes that spin up to 2,000 rpm," said Mary Dziak, Marketing Manager. "The brushes easily fit into 4" ducts and expand to clean ducts up to 18" in diameter," she added.

There was a time when duct tape was found only in hardware stores and was easily distinguished from the other adhesive tapes by its gray surface. Duct tape represented practicality, durability, reliability; truly the workhorse of many household repairs. A toolbox without duct tape was like a desk drawer without paper clips – weird and i.plete.But the duct tape landscape has undergone a huge transformation. Both of the chemical transfer hoses provide flexibility, high pressure ratings and chemical resistance, and they can be used for bulk transfers of chemical,Flexible hose, solvents, acid, adhesives and other materials. For now, Jenkins's team and others are making steady progress toward that goal, training robots to stack blocks, pick up objects to tidy the lab space, and even boot a crawler crane. I didn't pay much attention to it at first. Sure,In a brief joint statement last week, Road Roller and Saatchi confirmed that they are working together - she with a lawyer, he representing himself. I saw the neon colors, the stripes and polka dots, and I suppose I noticed that duct tape had moved from the back of the store – where hardware is often located — to more prominent shopping real estate such as the office supplies and/or craft aisles.
